AGFUO - Public comments submitted for the June 1, 2021, City Council Meeting
From: Chris Beratlis
Sent: Monday, May 31, 20217:35 PM
To: Mayor and City Council; Karla Brown; Nelson Fialho; Kathy Narum; Jack Balch; Julie Testa; Valerie
Arkin; Pamela Ott
Subject: Proposed retail increase for Downtown
Hi all.
I found out that there is a proposal to increase retail in the Downtown to mandatory 60%. 1 sure hope
this was misinterpreted by someone. If this is the case, I would like to say that this would not be a good
idea. Downtown has been shaped by many diverse property owners and people move to Pleasanton
largely in part because of our Downtown the way that it is. Why try to change a good thing? Do they
think that they can do it better? Do they even own property Downtown?
If a property owner is going to lease a building to someone who doesn't fit the plan, why not have a
conversation about possible tenants that would be good for Downtown?
I think some good old-fashioned suggestions and education to the property owners Downtown would be
the best way to start. Why doesn't the City of Pleasanton host a Downtown Property Owners meeting
and educate and have discussions about this? I for sure would be ready and willing to attend.
If there had been education to the property owners prior to the Iron Horse Real Estate issue I'm sure it
could have turned into less of an issue and been resolved much easier.
As a PDA Director myself we have been rigorously working on promoting retail Downtown but forcing us
to bring in a certain type of business is wrong and not very Pleasanton like.
Thank you for your time on this.
Chris Beratlis
Beratlis Properties
925 -
Chris
Distributed to City Council for the September 7, 2021, meeting Page 6
