THE CITY OF 13 <br /> °1° ' -•• �° ��, "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLE ASANTON. <br /> June 15, 2021 <br /> Library and Recreation <br /> TITLE: APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF NIKITA JAYAPRAKASH AS TEEN POET <br /> LAUREATE FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2021-2022 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The Teen Poet Laureate provides poetry at civic events and aims to raise awareness of <br /> the importance of poetry toward the development and enhancement of the lives of <br /> Pleasanton teens. Past Teen Poet Laureates have pursued meaningful endeavors in <br /> the community, in collaboration with the Pleasanton Library and the Firehouse Arts <br /> Center. <br /> In April 2021, the Teen Poet Laureate subcommittee began the recruitment for the Teen <br /> Poet Laureate for the 2021-2022 school year. Applications were accepted at the <br /> Pleasanton Library and online in the month of April and candidates participated in <br /> interviews, shared samples of their writings and provided community references. From <br /> the pool of applicants, Nikita Jayaprakash was selected for the appointment. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the appointment of Nikita Jayaprakash as the Pleasanton Teen Poet Laureate <br /> for the 2021-2022 school year. <br /> CIVIC ARTS AND LIBRARY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the appointment of Nikita Jayaprakash as the Pleasanton Teen Poet Laureate <br /> for the 2021-2022 school year. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The City Teen Poet Laureate receives no remuneration. Any expenses related to the <br /> Teen Poet Laureate program such as supplies for workshops, poetry readings and teen <br /> events are allocated in the Civic Arts budget #00150407-433154, in an amount not to <br /> exceed $2000. <br />
