RESOLUTION NO. 21-1207 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON IN <br />SUPPORT OF EQUAL TREATMENT FOR ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC <br />ISLANDERS <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton is a community that supports equity, inclusion and <br />diversity of people of all races, national origins, and ethnicities in guaranteeing the safety and <br />security of all residents, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton condemns any act of violence, racism, or <br />discrimination against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community or any other <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an increase in the use of anti - <br />Asian terminology, bullying, harassment, and hate incidents and crimes against AAPI persons: <br />and <br />WHEREAS, such increased stigmatization and acts of hate have created fear among the <br />AAPI community across the nation; and <br />WHEREAS, continuing to strive for diversity, inclusion, and equity for all residents serves <br />to make Pleasanton a stronger and more vibrant community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, <br />CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDERS AS FOLLOWS: <br />Condemns racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific <br />Islanders, and will continue to work to ensure all members, including the AAPI communities, are <br />treated with dignity and equity. <br />PASSED; APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br />a regular meeting held on April 20, 2021. <br />I.
