attached when Pleasanton's residents are doing pretty well. Mayor Thorne endorsed the concept of
getting information from the cities to help make a more informed decision.
Councilmember Testa expressed her belief this is a good beginning, but the community is asking them
for peace of mind and the Council is responding to their fears and concerns. She believes the report
would be a nice start.
Councilmember Brown wished Mayor Thorne the best of luck on his surgery and also thanked him for
his extensive service to the community. She stated her appreciation for his balance in crossing the aisle
to either agree or disagree on an issue. Councilmember Brown promised to do her very best to fill his
big shoes after she is sworn in as Mayor.
Councilmember Testa thanked both Councilmember Pentin and Mayor Thorne for their service to the
community. She stated how much she has always appreciated Mayor Thorne's leadership. He repeated
the words of Senator Glazer when he said you do not always have to agree on everything and stated
this is how she feels. She noted she often tells people Mayor Thorne's Achilles heel is being a good
person and it was visible on complicated issues where he would decide based on doing the right thing
and not necessarily the easy thing.
Councilmember Pentin expressed how wonderful it has been working with Mayor Thorne for 20 years
filled with wonderful experiences. He called Mayor Thorne a mentor and expressed how much he will
miss working with him. Councilmember Pentin wished him the best of luck on his next chapter in life
and his medical procedure.
Councilmember Narum reflected on decades working together starting with the Pleasanton Seahawks.
She praised his evolution over the years in his approach to the community and leadership in keeping
the Council in the right direction during tough debates. She wished him good luck on his next life
journey after a good run together.
Mayor Thorne encouraged Councilmember Brown to get involved in Alameda County Transportation
Commission because it is entirely Mayors except for Oakland.
Councilmember Brown confirmed Councilmember Pentin has one or two more Council meetings so his
tributes will come then.
COUNCIL REPORTS - None
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Councilmember Testa adjourned the meeting with a tribute to men
and women serving in the military, honoring the memories of those who have died in past wars in
defense of our country including those who have died in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan at
10:08 p.m.
Respectfully s bmitted,
are Diaz
City 6Ierk
City Council Minutes Page 13 of 13 November 17, 2020
