Sara expressed support for the PPD and strongly encouraged City Council to fully fund the police <br /> budget. <br /> Christina Nystrom Mantha encouraged City Council to answer questions residents have been asking of <br /> the PPD regarding policies, training, and equipment, expressed support for a mental health <br /> professional, and encourages change and reform. <br /> Dale Bowman expressed his support for the DARE program in schools, encouraged City Council to <br /> support other social programs to assist the youth of Pleasanton, and supports increasing the police <br /> budget. <br /> Mariana Zuniga expressed support for the reallocation of PPD funds towards mental and social <br /> services and encouraged police accountability and transparency <br /> Fabiel Zuniga encouraged reform within the PPD. <br /> Nancy Allen encouraged improvement with the PPD and encouraged more support for mental health, <br /> supports increased accountability and transparency, and encouraged a deeper dive with groups that <br /> may be underrepresented in the listening session. <br /> Amritha Ramalingam expressed support of reallocating funds from the PPD to fund mental health <br /> professionals and encouraged reform. <br /> Emily Lipkind expressed support for a policy that requires de-escalation be used in all possible <br /> situations and require review by a Civilian Review Board when de-escalation is not possible, <br /> encouraged marijuana use to be treated as a mental health crisis instead of a criminal action, <br /> encouraged the use of mental health experts when responding to a mental health crisis, and the use of <br /> a database to track all complaints filed against PPD. <br /> Richard Li suggested City Council require speakers submit their address to confirm they are residents <br /> before allowing them to address City Council, expressed his support for PPD, and encouraged <br /> additional training, staffing, technology, and equipment upgrades. <br /> Dylan Easton expressed opposition for defunding the PPD and encouraged additional training for police <br /> officers. <br /> Sean 0 Sullivan expressed concern regarding the militarized response to local protests, requested a <br /> justification of military equipment, and expressed support for civilian oversight. <br /> Keith Li expressed his support for PPD and opposes defunding the police budget. <br /> Mayor Thorne thanked all the speakers for their valuable input, feedback, and personal experiences. <br /> He reported the next steps include a comprehensive review of policies and procedures including use of <br /> force policies, training, and best practices on August 20th and a review of the implementation of 21st <br /> Century Policing Pillars on September 17th.
