Andrew Pereira encouraged City Council to begin committing funds to local human service <br /> organizations to provide housing for the homeless and address their needs. <br /> Varun lyer suggested Police Chief Swing include specific information about juvenile interactions with <br /> PPD in future Annual Police Reports to encourage civilian oversight. <br /> Varsha Madapoosi expressed support for the reallocation of the police budget towards crisis prevention <br /> and reduction strategies including mental health. She encouraged civilian oversight to increase <br /> transparency and accountability of the PPD. <br /> Saachi Bhayani expressed support for the reallocation of the police budget towards other protection for <br /> Pleasanton's schools. <br /> Lou Cooper expressed support for defunding PPD and reallocating resources towards mental health <br /> services and other law enforcement. She expressed concern that School Resource Officers target <br /> students of color and encouraged early mental health intervention for students in need. <br /> Barbara Comstock expressed her support of Community Listening Sessions, encouraged City Council <br /> to develop a survey to listen to the voices who are not being heard during the sessions especially <br /> Pleasanton's communities of color, and bias training for PPD <br /> Aaron Guerra encouraged City Council to pass legislation to remove service weapons from officers who <br /> are patrolling or responding to non-violent calls, suggested a freeze of the Police budget, the <br /> reallocation of funds to Human Services, and the establishment of a separate Mental Health <br /> Department. <br /> Julia Smith shared the stories of three (3) victims who were killed by PPD and expressed support for <br /> reallocating police funding towards mental health services that will help residents. <br /> Ward Kanowsky expressed concern the City Council meeting on July 14th was the first in 24 years to <br /> take a deep dive to review policies, procedures, and use of force practices in the PPD.
