Jennifer Duncan expressed her support for Item 4 and noted any loopholes will be exploited by the <br /> Tobacco industry to market to youth. <br /> Sophia Thompson expressed her support for Item 4 and encouraged the ban of menthol cigarettes. <br /> Jen Grand-Lejano, Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action <br /> Network, applauded recent amendments to strengthen the ordinance and looks forward to the Tobacco <br /> Retailer License introduced as a second ordinance. She encouraged City Council to not consider any <br /> future exemptions for premium tobacco products and to remove the Youth Penalty Clause. <br /> Liz Williams, Americans for Non-Smoker's Rights, expressed her support for Item 4 and encouraged <br /> setting a minimum price for tobacco products and banning the sale of all flavored tobacco products. <br /> Craig Austin Wingate, Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition, expressed his support for Item 4 <br /> and encouraged City Council not to be intimidated by Big Tobacco's tactics which include lawsuits and <br /> requests for carve-outs. <br /> In response to John Bower's inquiry requesting confirmation his email was received and distributed <br /> Vice Mayor Narum confirmed his email was received. <br /> Vice Mayor Narum noted Item 4 has been continued to the June 16th Council meeting and discussion <br /> on the Tobacco Retailer's License will take place on June 2"d <br /> Vice Mayor Narum closed public comment. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Brown/Pentin to approve the Consent Calendar as submitted and noted. <br /> Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Pentin, Testa, Vice Mayor Narum <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: Mayor Thorne <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 8. Presentation of a proclamation declaring May as Mental Health Awareness Month <br /> Councilmember Testa noted the increase in mental health challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <br /> She read the proclamation and introduced Marcia McInnis, Vice-President of National Alliance on <br /> Mental Illness (NAMI) Tri-Valley. <br /> Ms. McInnis thanked the City for the proclamation. She commented millions of Americans face the <br /> reality of living with mental illness annually and noted NAMI Tri-Valley provides support and education <br /> for mental illness. <br /> 9. Public Comment <br /> Stephen Bull addressed City Council regarding the Pleasanton Girls Softball League and expressed <br /> interest in starting a dialogue with City leadership to begin planning and preparing for softball activities <br /> based upon the league's return to play. <br /> City Manager Nelson Fialho reported staff is working with all civic sports leagues to enable them to <br /> restart when the County Health Order allows.
