CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 558 <br /> <br />AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 477 (NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE) BY <br />PROVIDING A DIFFERENT GROUNDING SYSTEM FOR RESIDENTIAL <br />OCCUPANCIES <br /> <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Paragraph "b", of Section 2, o~f Ordinance 477 is hereby amended by <br /> <br />the addition thereto of the following: <br /> <br />"a. Section 250-81 of the adopted National Electrical Code <br /> is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />In all new installations, the grounding electrode <br />shall consist of two (2) reinforcing bars 1/2-inch <br />in diameter and 20 feet long, or approved equal, <br />embedded in the concrete building foundation. Such <br />bars shall extend in opposite directions from the <br />electrical service equipment and shall have a minimum <br />3-inch clearance from sides and bottom of the founda- <br />tion. One end of each bar shall be bent 90° and shall <br />project vertically from the foundation to a minimum <br />of 6 inches above mud sill at the service location <br />for connection to the grounding conductor. The verti. <br />cal sections of the two bars shall be bonded together <br />mechanically within the area of the concrete. The <br />connection of the grounding conductor to the electrod, <br />shall be made with an approved ground clamp installed <br />within a readily accessible junction box. The water <br />piping in the building shall be bonded to the elec- <br />trode within the junction box." <br /> <br />"b. Section 250-82 of the adopted National Electrical Code <br /> is hereby deleted." <br /> <br /> II. <br /> <br />This Ordinance shall be published once in "THE TIMES", a newspaper <br />of general circulation, published within the City of Pleasanton, <br />and shall become effective thirty days after the date of adoption. <br /> <br />INTRODUCED AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PLEASANTON ON MAY 26 , 1969. <br /> <br /> <br />
