11 <br />THE CITY OF ON <br />"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PLEASANTON. <br />September 1, 2020 <br />Library and Recreation <br />TITLE: APPROVE POLICY DIRECTION TO BEGIN THE DESIGN PROCESS FOR <br />AN ALL -ABILITIES PLAYGROUND AT KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK <br />SUMMARY <br />The Parks and Recreation Commission identified an all -abilities playground as their <br />number one priority for fiscal year 2019/20. The City Council adopted the all -abilities <br />playground as one of the Council's priority Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. <br />Funding has been budgeted this fiscal year for design services. <br />After research and review, staff determined two locations that are appropriate for an all - <br />abilities playground—the undeveloped area known as Staples Ranch and Ken Mercer <br />Sports Park. These two options were presented to the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission on January 9, 2020. The Parks and Recreation Commission voted <br />unanimously to move forward with the recommendation to pursue the Ken Mercer <br />Sports Park location for an all -abilities playground. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />Recommend City Council approve policy direction to begin the design process for an <br />all -abilities playground at Ken Mercer Sports Park. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve policy direction to begin the design process for an all -abilities playground at <br />Ken Mercer Sports Park. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />$400,000 is budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program budget to hire a master plan <br />design professional to begin work on this project. <br />
