13 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> �° CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLE ASANTON <br /> June 16, 2020 <br /> Engineering <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD <br /> A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO VSS INTERNATIONAL, INC. IN THE <br /> AMOUNT OF $679,033 FOR THE ANNUAL SLURRY SEAL OF VARIOUS <br /> STREETS, CIP NO. 20504 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Nine bids were received for the Annual Slurry Seal of Various Streets Project, CIP No. <br /> 20504, on May 5, 2020. Staff recommends award of the construction contract to the <br /> lowest responsible bidder, VSS International, Inc., in the amount of$679,033. Slurry <br /> sealing will prolong the service life of the existing pavement through the application of a <br /> thin coat of asphalt/aggregate slurry mixture to the pavement surface. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications for the project. <br /> 2. Review the received bids and award the construction contract for the project to VSS <br /> International, Inc. of West Sacramento, CA, for the low bid amount of $679,033. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Engineering to approve and execute contract change <br /> order(s) for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $67,900 (approximately 10 percent <br /> of the contract) for unforeseen yet necessary related work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> Project funding totals $900,000 dollars with estimated project expenditures of$763,400, <br /> including $84,215 for the construction contingency and testing services. Funding and <br /> anticipated project expenditures are detailed in Attachment 1. <br />
