rich workplace districts integrating retail and housing that are increasingly sought by innovation-focused <br /> firms and workers. <br /> Describe any major changes that may have an economic impact, such as planned local or <br /> regional public or private sector investments or initiatives that have affected or may affect <br /> job and business growth opportunities during the planning period. <br /> Describe any needs for workforce development, business support or infrastructure these <br /> changes may create. <br /> Two major private development projects will have a significant impact on business and job growth.The <br /> implementation of the Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone will bring two new hotels and a <br /> Costco membership retail store to Pleasanton within the coming few years.The owner of Stoneridge <br /> Shopping Center has received approval for additional retail/restaurant space and is also pursuing <br /> approval to add multi-Ofamily housing to designated housing opportunity sites on the mall property. <br /> Combined,these projects will bring additional jobs to the city, primarily in the retail and hospitality <br /> sectors. <br /> How do the skills and education of the current workforce correspond to employment <br /> opportunities in the jurisdiction? <br /> Pleasanton's largest employers,such as Oracle,Safeway, Roche Molecular Systems,Abbott,Veeva <br /> Systems, Ellie Mae,Thermo Fisher and Workday are economic anchors that attract talented and skilled <br /> employees and additional business activity through the growth of the supply chain network and the <br /> creation of new, related businesses.These companies also represent the majority of Pleasanton's <br /> 63,000+jobs,and find a sufficient labor pool to meet demand. However, many retail, service and <br /> hospitality industry sector companies have difficulty in attracting and hiring workers given that many do <br /> not live in the city or Tri-Valley. <br /> Describe any current workforce training initiatives, including those supported by Workforce <br /> Investment Boards, community colleges and other organizations. Describe how these efforts <br /> will support the jurisdiction's Consolidated Plan. <br /> Among Pleasanton's local workforce development partners are: <br /> • Tri-Valley Educational Collaboration(TEC)is a collaborative effort to prepared students for college <br /> and careers through a collaborative forum that evaluates and plans Career Technical Education <br /> articulation strategies through a regional effort among the education jurisdictional governing <br /> boards (i.e.,school district boards). <br /> • Tri-Valley Career Center offers resources for both job seekers and employers across all <br /> industries and professions. <br /> Consolidated Plan PLEASANTON-DRAFT 22 <br /> OMB Control No:2506-0117(exp.06/30/2018) <br />
