b. Employees who are required to work in excess of their regularly scheduled 10- or <br /> 12.5-hour day shall accrue overtime for this time worked at the rate of time-and- <br /> one-half the employee's regular rate of pay. <br /> 3. SHIFT TRADES <br /> a. Employees shall be permitted to substitute or"shift trade"for one another, when <br /> approved by the employees' supervisor and the change does not interfere with or <br /> otherwise create additional burden on the staffing or operation of the Police <br /> Department. When a shift trade occurs, the employee who was originally scheduled <br /> to work the shift shall be credited, for FLSA and payroll purposes, as though he or <br /> she worked that shift and the employee who works in place of the scheduled <br /> employee shall not receive compensation from the City or be credited with hours <br /> worked under the FLSA for this time worked. By agreeing to shift trades, both <br /> employees acknowledge that they do so freely. Any employee may refuse to shift <br /> trade without sanction and without being required to explain or justify the decision. <br /> The City is not required to keep a record of shift trades. <br /> b. Shift trades may occur among employees working shifts of different lengths, so long <br /> as the trade is made freely and voluntarily by both employees. For example, <br /> employees who work 10-hour shifts may trade with employees who work 12.5-hour <br /> shifts and vice versa. <br /> 4. STAFFING LEVELS <br /> a. Minimum staffing standards apply at all times. Requests to take time off on training or <br /> relief days may be denied to meet minimum staffing standards or to accommodate <br /> training or operational needs. <br /> b. Minimum staffing levels of Patrol Teams are as follows: <br /> • Schedule A (Monday—Thursday, 10-hour shifts) <br /> Team 1 - Day Watch—Five Officers& One Sergeant <br /> Team 2 -Night Watch—Five Officers & One Sergeant <br /> Team 3 - Morning Watch—Five Officers& One Sergeant <br /> • Schedule B (Friday— Sunday, 12.5-hour shifts) <br /> Team 4- Day Watch—Five Officers & One Sergeant <br /> Team 5 -Night Watch—Two Officers (Fridays& Saturdays only) <br /> Team 6- Morning Watch—Five Officers& One Sergeant <br /> c. Staffing levels of Patrol Teams, as determined by the Police Chief, may be changed at <br /> any time to accommodate the operational needs of the department. <br /> 5. ADVANCE NOTICE <br /> a. Absent exigent circumstances,the Department will provide direct notice to the <br /> employee at least 72 hours prior to the change. In the event the Department fails to give <br /> an employee at least seventy-two (72)hours prior notice of a shift change,the employee <br /> will be paid two (2)hours at time and one-half in addition to all scheduled hours(at <br /> regular rate) for the adjusted shift. It is understood that notice is not required for <br /> scheduled or emergency overtime as that is not considered a shift adjustment. <br /> 31 <br />
