From: Pamela Ott
Sent:
To: Nicole Rodriguez
Subject: FW: Support for Vaping Proposals
Original Message
From: Amanda Brown •
Sent: Wednesday, December 18, 2019 8:25 PM
To: Pamela Ott<

>
Subject: Support for Vaping Proposals
Economic Vitality Committee Members,
Pleasanton is not immune to the national epidemic of increasing tobacco usage among high school students.Juul and
other e-cigarette companies have fueled adolescent interest in tobacco through predatory marketing techniques
designed to appeal to an underage generation of new consumers. It has worked.
Today,30%of our Pleasanton students have used e-cigarettes and almost 80% believe that vaping devices are easy to
obtain (California Healthy Kids Survey). We must address the problem in our own backyards. We cannot leave our
children to fight this battle on their own.
As a mom of three young children in Pleasanton (ages 5, 6, and 8), I am keenly aware that policy decisions enacted today
will have a direct impact on my kids. For this reason, I wanted to voice my support for the the following Youth
Commission proposed actions:
1. Prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco products 2. Prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes and related paraphernalia 3. Restrict
the sale of tobacco products within 1,000 feet of public schools, public parks, and public recreation facilities [with pre-
existing tobacco shops being allowed to remain as legal non-conforming uses] 5. Update the Municipal Code to prohibit
persons under the age of 21 from possession of tobacco products
Thank you for your consideration of this issue,
Amanda Brown
MS Environmental Science
PTA Board Member, Hearst Elementary School
Click
https://www.mailcontrol.com/sr/bUsaYBtffxjGX2PQPOmvUvmldA89nuwlmjAKxHO3LoLCkG0mPm4JyWVGRLKwgpyXBP
Q4Ofnzlen46EHnGWFGZQ== to report this email as spam.
