take advantage of an existing legal non-conforming condition, unless approved <br /> by the City through a variance or other approval. <br /> The Planning Commission also recommended that any replacement building be <br /> constructed in the same or a comparable historic style as the demolished building. <br /> That recommendation is included in the proposed ordinance as: "New or <br /> replacement construction shall be built in the same or another appropriate historical <br /> style as described in the Pleasanton Downtown Historic Context Statement (2015) or <br /> other city document; and shall be of the same or better quality of design and level of <br /> architectural detail as the building that was altered or demolished." <br /> These restrictions on future development keep replacement buildings in scale and style <br /> with neighborhood character. <br /> Public Comment. At the Planning Commission's November 13, 2019 meeting, <br /> comments were submitted by the public in writing (see Attachment 3) as well as <br /> conveyed in person regarding the fines and restrictions on development for illegal <br /> historic building demolition and alteration, with respect to ensuring any new/replacement <br /> buildings would be of an appropriate scale and historic character as buildings <br /> demolished. <br /> Amend Purchasing Procedures and Manual. A resolution is proposed to amend the <br /> Purchasing Procedures and Manual to allow the City to cancel contracts with <br /> businesses which violate the Municipal Code. See Attachment 2.'
