THE CITY OF 7 - f -"" I II CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pL£ASANTON November 5, 2019 Engineering TITLE: APPROVE AN AMENDMENT TO THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH HMH ENGINEERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $28,000 FOR ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING AND DESIGN WORK NECESSARY TO MODIFY THE 65 PERCENT COMPLETE PLANS FOR THE DOWNTOWN TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, CIP NO. 17448, AS DIRECTED BY CITY COUNCIL SUMMARY On June 18, 2019, the 65 percent complete plans for the Downtown Transportation Corridor Parking Lot Improvements Project were presented to City Council. The presentation discussed several project design features to expand the existing parking lot and construct a concrete multi-use bicycle/pedestrian path in the stretch of corridor between Bernal Avenue and Abbie Street. The presentation detailed how the overall width of the public right-of-way (corridor width), as well as the grade differential across the width of the corridor, impacted the design and width of the concrete trail. After receiving the presentation, Council directed staff to consider modifications to the project's design in order to increase the width of the concrete trail. This amendment to the agreement with HMH Engineers (HMH) in the amount of $28,000 is for the additional engineering and design services necessary to implement City Council's direction. Staff recommends approval of the amendment to the agreement with HMH Engineers. RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve Amendment No. 1 to the contract with HMH Engineers in the not-to-exceed amount of$28,000 for additional engineering and design services necessary to modify the plans for the Downtown Transportation Corridor Parking Lot Improvement Project, CIP No.17448 (an increase in the contract amount from $197,000 to $225,000). 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the amendment to the agreement. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The current Capital Improvement Program budget includes $3.2 million to fund the design and construction of the Downtown Transportation Corridor Parking Lot Improvement Project, CIP No.17448. This design agreement and amendment will be charged to the project budget.
