MISCELLANOUS PARK PROJECTS
The following is a list of small projects that fall into the categories of "routine
replacement," "minor renovation" or "public art installation."
Minor Renovation:
Playground Renovation
Consistent with the City's ongoing playground replacement plan, the City is replacing
the playgrounds at Orloff Park (one two -to -five year old and one five -to -twelve -year-old
play area), Tawny Park (one two -to -five year old and one five -to -twelve -year-old play
area), and the big hillside slide at Mission Hills Park. The City sent out an RFQ on July
24 for design and construction services for the Mission Hills Slide and received three
qualified proposals on August 16. The City sent out an RFQ for the Orloff Park
playgrounds on July 15, 2019 and received five qualified proposals on August 6, 2019.
Based on the proposals the City chose Miracle Playsystems for Mission Hills Park and
SPEC for Hansen Park.
■ Public outreach was held at Mission Hills Park for the big slide renovation on
December 15, 2018.
■ On January 10, 2019 City Staff presented the Mission Hills slide concept plans
and public comments to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a
recommendation. The Commission recommended moving forward with the
design and installation of Option 2.
■ The City contracted with Miracle Playsystems for the design of construction
documents for the Mission Hills slide renovation on January 31, 2019.
■ Miracle Playsystems submitted the 100% construction documents for the Mission
Hills slide on June 21, 2019.
❖ On July 15, 2019 the City sent out a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for the Orloff
Park playgrounds, which includes a playground for 2-5 year olds and a playground
for 5-12 year olds.
❖ On July 16, 2019 City Council approved the plans and specifications and awarded
the Mission Hills Big Slide project to Miracle Playsystems.
❖ On August 1, 2019 the City submitted an application for a California Park and
Recreation Society (CPRS) grant to help fund the renovation of playgrounds in
Pleasanton. The requested grant amount was $275, 000, with 50% of the funding to
be provided by the City and 50% to be provided by CPRS (a total of $137,500 in
CPRS funding). On September 13, 2019 the City was notified by CPRS that the City
was awarded the grant money. This will allow the City to pursue renovation of the 2
playgrounds at Tawny Park and possibly the playground at Vintage Hills Park.
❖ On August 6, 2019 the City received 5 qualified Statement of Qualification (SOQ)
packages. Based on the review of the SOQ's staff chose Park Planet to design the
Orloff park playgrounds. The Public Outreach for the playgrounds is scheduled for
Saturday, October 5, 2019.
❖ On September 28, 2019 the City held "The Last Ride" event for the Mission Hills
Slide to provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy the slide one last time before
Page 7 of 9
