In August 2012, the City started the formal process to recruit and Teen Poet Laureate. In January 2013, the first two (2) students, Valley and Foothill High School(s), were appointed to serve as the Laureates for the remaining duration of the 2012/2013 school year. Past Teen Poet Laureates include: • Arany Uthayakumar (2012-2013) • Diana Fu (2012-2013) & (2013-2014) • Nive Raghavan (2013-2014) • Nicole Tsuno (2014-2015) • Maya Lyubomirsky (2014-2015) • Frances Tang (2015-2016) • Kyler Juarez (2015-2016 and 2016-2017) • Kyle Mular (2016-2017) • Irene Sha (2016-2017 and 2017-2018) • Nithya Swaminathan (2016-2017 and 2017-2018) • Yasmin Ghaemmaghani (2017-2018) • Varsha Vaidyanath (2017-2018) • Sandra Chen (2018-2019) officially appoint a one from Amador City's Teen Poet This past summer, Library and Recreation staff began the recruitment process for the Teen Poet Laureate position for the 2019/2020 school year. Incoming high school juniors and seniors who enjoy writing, inspiring others and were interested in contributing to their community were strongly encouraged to apply. As part of the process, the City established a Poet Laureate selection committee comprised of community members and staff to review submitted materials, interview candidates, and recommend candidates for the Teen Poet Laureate position. The screening committee interviewed a total of seven applicants for the Teen Poet Laureate position. The screening committee is recommending that the Civic Art Commission and the Library Commission appoint Kanchan Naik from Quarry Lane School for the school year term of 2019/2020. Kanchan is a Pleasanton teen who is actively involved in her town, where she volunteers for the Ptown Life News Team and writes articles for the community while uniquely expressing herself. Recently, she participated in a Teen Open Mic Night at Inkling's Coffee, a City -partnered event, where she read one of her original poems titled "Language". Page 2 of 3
