retaining wall to an 18-inch retaining wall with shrubs behind it and it will set back one-foot <br /> from the property line. <br /> Architect Craig Schafer with PM Design Group spoke about the project and referenced <br /> Commissioner Brown's question regarding the parking stalls. He explained the reasoning <br /> behind the proposed design given safety and ADA reasons, circulation, the driveway, and <br /> other design challenges on the site. <br /> Applicant's Traffic Consultant Chris Kinzel with TJKM spoke about the proposed width of the <br /> driveway at 40 feet and the reasons behind his recommendation. He found many 40-foot <br /> driveways which are common in north Pleasanton and while a 35-foot driveway would work, <br /> due to the compactness of the site, 40 feet is desirable. <br /> Mr. Schafer spoke to the roofing material, stating they are willing to work with staff to come up <br /> with an alternative than the one proposed, such as a heavy shingle or concrete. <br /> Commissioner Balch asked what was the typical life of the plastic sample that was proposed. <br /> Mr. Schafer stated it is a 15-year roof, as compared to concrete, which is much longer. <br /> Chair Allen then opened the public comment period. <br /> Peter Hu spoke on behalf of the church in regard to the proposed height of the fence at five <br /> feet. He explained his reasoning behind requesting a six-foot high fence, noting it is common in <br /> the neighborhood. There had been robberies in the past with his property used as an escape <br /> route. He also referenced the setback and displayed photographs of over-sized customer <br /> vehicles that park in his parking lot during the week. He asked for more separation to avoid <br /> easy access. The walkway is to be expanded from five to eight feet per Condition No. 15 and <br /> they believe that the end of the six feet should include a 42-inch wrought iron fence, extending <br /> to the Hopyard Road sidewalk. <br /> Commissioner Brown asked for clarification on the request for a six-foot fence as measured <br /> from which site, either the 7-Eleven or the church, as the 7-Eleven site is higher in elevation <br /> than the church site. <br /> Mr. Hu responded the request is six feet from the 7-Eleven elevation and asked that it be six <br /> feet atop of the retaining wall, for a total of seven and a half feet so people cannot jump over it. <br /> Jenny Bento spoke as a previous Pleasanton resident and a current member of the church, <br /> working as a youth leader on Saturday and Wednesday nights. She spoke about a time when <br /> the youth attending the church were being verbally harassed by other young adults coming in <br /> and out of 7-Eleven who were banging on the windows of the church building. She did not feel <br /> comfortable letting the youth outside and she requested parents had to come inside to pick <br /> them up.
