Pamela Ott referenced The Mirador View report, which is an overview of high -performing <br />companies in the Tri -Valley and particularly highlights information and medical technology <br />companies in Pleasanton; overall the Tri -Valley is outperforming the greater Bay Area. <br />Pamela recognized Shareef Mandavi and Steve Van Dorn for their effort and support for an <br />event hosted at Foothill High School connecting local life science companies with curriculum <br />being offered at the high schools. The event was designed to create connections between <br />companies and the students as the next generation workforce, to strengthen Pleasanton's <br />reputation as an excellent location life science companies, and help to secure funding for a <br />new state of the art biomedical facility at Foothill High school. Pamela also shared that Veeva <br />Systems will again host the Tri -Valley Life Sciences Summit later in 2019. <br />It was mentioned that Workday opened its new headquarters building on Stoneridge Mall <br />Road, further reflecting the company's commitment to Pleasanton. <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br />City Council Liaison Report <br />Councilmember Julie Testa reported on the Downtown Specific Plan discussion from the May <br />7 City Council meeting, noting that the Council affirmed much of its April 16 direction regarding <br />with the exceptions of: <br />• Limiting residential districts to 2 -stories and a 30 -foot maximum with the ability to <br />consider additional height through a Planned Unit Development (PUD) <br />• Property -owner initiated requests for change in land use as part of the DSP Update <br />process: <br />0 4212 First Street (Shell station) — Council voted 4-1 to retain existing Downtown <br />Commercial land use designation, with a map annotation t potential for a future <br />residential -only project subject to approval of a PUD <br />0 475/493 St. John Street (Barones) — Council voted 3-2 to retain existing <br />Downtown Commercial use designation, with a map annotation to note potential <br />for a Mixed -Use Transitional designation to be applied to the property, subject to <br />approval of a PUD. <br />Councilmember Testa noted her perspective these two properties should not be changed as <br />part of specific plan update, and should go through the City's regular review process. <br />Steve Baker asked for EVC input on matters to be discussed and voted on at the upcoming <br />final DSP Task Force meeting. Steve commented the original process was for the task force to <br />finalize a draft plan, after which Planning would review it and forward for Planning Commission <br />and City Council consideration. Instead, based on public comments made prior to the task <br />force's completion, the City Council felt it necessary on certain issues to provide direction to <br />the task force. Some members of the Task Force feel this undercut the work of the task force <br />and did a disservice to the process, such that there is no need for additional task force <br />meetings. Councilmember Testa noted that she disagrees that misinformation was given and <br />that there was one person expressly influencing the process. <br />Steve Baker would like EVC input on items to be (re)addressed by the task force at its May 28 <br />meeting: <br />0 Ground floor residential — Council did not support on Main Street <br />
