DISCUSSION
There are one hundred seven segments of roadway in Pleasanton that are required to
have valid Engineering and Traffic Surveys completed. Of those recently reviewed, one
is recommended for a decrease in speed limit. Currently, Independence Drive has two
speed limits along different parts of the roadway. The section closer to Bernal Avenue,
where there is no fronting residential, currently has a 30 MPH speed limit, while the
section with fronting residential has a 25 MPH speed limit. The recommended change
would make the entirety of Independence Drive have a 25 MPH speed limit.
The Engineering and Traffic Survey was updated after the installation of speed lumps
on the roadway, which were approved as part of the Junipero/Independence Traffic
Calming Program.
Table 1
City of Pleasanton Engineering and Traffic Surveys Segment with
Proposed Speed Limit Change
Existing Proposed Survey
Speed Speed Critical
Street From To Limit Limit Speed'`
Independence Drive Bernal Avenue 300' south of Crystal Lane 30 25 26
Segment Description
Independence Drive
This two-lane roadway is divided by a two-way left
turn lane from Bernal Avenue to Crystal Lane and a
landscaped median south of Crystal Lane.
