the bench from being able to do so as it is not welcoming. She continued by stating the design
of the bus bench is non-inclusive, which can be considered offensive to the homeless
population. She inquired whether this design is intended to be the standard for the future
design of all bus shelter benches within the City.
Community Development Director Gerry Beaudin responded to her concern and advised her
that the benches and bus shelters are not designed nor maintained by the City of Pleasanton;
however, they are the property of Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA)
otherwise known as "Wheels." He agreed to provide the speaker with contact information for
LAVTA.
PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS
None
MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Commissioner Balch voiced appreciation for the striping along both sides of the street at
Kottinger Gardens, noting the street was narrowed to slow traffic for seniors to allow them to
cross more safely. He mentioned the timing of the project may not have been in line with the
City's expectation as it created some concern among drivers, however, now that the striping
and signage have been installed, he likes the design and appearance, especially given it slows
traffic and gives the public a safe avenue to cross. He also appreciates that the City has
addressed the traffic in front of Meadowlark Dairy with traffic cones.
Commissioner Ritter referred to the Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA), the Chamber of
Commerce and Friends of Pleasanton as formulating a group to make recommendations on
the parking in the Downtown. He asked and confirmed that the City Traffic Engineer Mike
Tassano was the correct staff contact.
MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW/ACTION/INFORMATION
4.
