Ms. Mosier thanked Council for the recognition and commented on this year's theme and the <br /> importance of affordable housing in the community. <br /> 9. Presentation of Proclamation recognizing May as Lupus Awareness Month <br /> Councilmember Testa invited Shamika Marty, The Lupus Foundation of Northern California, to the <br /> podium and presented her with a proclamation recognizing May as Lupus Awareness Month. <br /> Ms. Marty thanked the City Council for helping to raise awareness. <br /> 10. Public Comment <br /> Dave Wright commented on the 40th anniversary of the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council, a non- <br /> profit body for the arts in Pleasanton. He addressed a recent event at the Senior Center <br /> celebrating the Cultural Arts of Japan and commented on the activities and community <br /> participation at the event. He thanked the City Council for participating and their support and on <br /> the importance of City grants in helping continue their programs. <br /> Benjamin Benson thanked the City Council for allowing his students to participate in meetings. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 11. PUBLIC HEARING: Consider Fiscal Year 2019/20: <br /> (a) Adopt a resolution allocating Housing and Human Services Grants and Community Grant <br /> Program Funds <br /> Assistant City Manager Brian Dolan introduced the item and deferred to staff for a presentation. <br /> Human Services Manager Jay Ingram provided a report and displayed a PowerPoint presentation <br /> addressing background and review of the grant application process, workshops for potential <br /> grantees, recommendations by the various commissions, FY 2019/20 funding available and <br /> sources for the various commissions, FY 2019/20 applications received and funding requested as <br /> well as funding recommendations. He discussed specific agencies, funding and projects under <br /> each. <br /> Councilmember Narum referenced recommendations for Civic Arts and inquired about what <br /> happens to the remaining unallocated funds. Human Services Manager Ingram reported they will <br /> be carried over to the next fiscal year. <br /> Councilmember Brown referenced unspent funds for Habitat for Humanity and inquired how to <br /> move forward with them as the recipients of generous funding they are not using. Assistant City <br /> Manager Dolan noted it will be addressed in the following presentation relative to housing. <br /> Housing Manager Steve Hernandez addressed funding recommendations for Housing including <br /> agencies, funding and related programs. In terms of Habitat for Humanity, staff is not <br /> recommending them to receive new funding, however staff does recommend that current funding <br /> be carried over so they can continue with administration of the Housing Rehabilitation program. <br /> He summarized the presentation noting the recommended actions reflect the composite <br /> recommendations of the Human Services, Housing, Civic Arts and Youth Commissions and staff <br /> and highlighting staff recommendations. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 3 of 7 May 21,2019 <br />
