COUNCIL REPORTS
Mayor Thorne reported the Mayors from Alameda and Contra-Costa Counties, consultants and staff
arranged a meeting with David Chu regarding a bill that would provide funding for affordable housing
and would create a new bureaucracy to deal with it. The group made it clear it did not want a new
bureaucracy and Mayor Thorne reported he will make amendments to his bill and the funding
mechanisms. Those matters will be addressed by the City's consultants.
Councilmember Brown reported on ribbon cuttings for Workday, Kaiser's new cancer and medical
facility and Sunflower Hill; the Community of Character luncheon, and the Treasures of Japan event.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:21 p.m. The Council extended a
tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military. We wish to honor the memories of those
who have died in past wars in defense of our country, including those who have died in the current
conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Diaz
City Clerk
City Council Minutes Page 7 of 7 May 21, 2019
