Attachment 2
Commissioner Wright commented on the City of Pleasanton's involvement in the Early Literacy
Diaper Pantry and Commissioner Hayes felt more funding should be allocated for the
Behavioral Health Care Services.
NAMI Tri-Valley — NAMI Tri-Valley Grant Application
Commissioner Wright commented on the need for the commission to look at overlapping of
services. Commissioner Parekh felt the commission needed to determine where they could
come up with funding for the group. He was concerned the group would stop meeting if they
did not receive funding because they are a volunteer group rather than one with paid
employees.
Commissioner Sedlak asked about a member of the organization's board being a City Council
member. Mr. Ingram advised that this issue is being addressed by the City Attorney.
Commissioners discussed differences between business run organizations and those run by
volunteers.
Commissioner Carlucci commented on providing additional funding for Child Care Links. He
was informed that they had also applied for funding from the cities of Livermore and Dublin.
Commissioners discussed funding allocation percentages and moving around some of the staff
recommended amounts.
Commissioner Hayes noted that NAMI had indicated they had funding available for two more
years and commented on when CityServe had first applied for funds. Commissioner Wright
felt that NAMI fit the criteria on behavioral health and Commissioner Parekh discussed reasons
that CityServe meets funding requirements.
Commissioner Carlucci questioned whether unused Capital funds were in an interest-bearing
account.
A motion was made by Commissioner Clare, seconded by Commissioner Wright,
recommending grant funds for Fiscal Year 2019/2020 as recommended in Attachment 1 with
the following modifications:
$4,100 increase for CityServe — Crisis Intervention-Sheltered Residents
$1,000 increase for Legal Assistance for Seniors — Legal Assistance
$ 850 increase for Easter Seals Bay Area — Kaleidoscope Community Adult Program
$1,600 increase for Hope Hospice — Grief Support Center & Hospice Volunteer Program
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Clare and Wright
NOES: Commissioners Carlucci, Hayes, Parekh, Sedlak, and Chairperson Parikh
ABSENT: Commissioner Rubino Brumm
ABSTAIN: None
The motion failed.
Human Services Commission
March 6, 2019
Page 6
