BACKGROUND
The Leak Response Vehicle is an emergency response vehicle that is used to respond
to emergency water main/service breaks and other utility related issues. The current
vehicle is a 2004 Ford 550 outfitted with a tool body and air compressor. The vehicle is
required to carry very specialized equipment such as pavement saws, torch sets,
pumps, hand tools, chop saws and pavement tamper. Additionally, it is also equipped
with a compressor and generator to power crucial pieces of equipment such as lights,
pumps, ventilators and jack hammers needed for emergency repair work.
For this vehicle, the industry has moved to medium duty and above chassis with utility
bodies designed for utility work. Therefore, this vehicle would be replaced with a 2020
Peterbilt 337 Chassis with a Dakota Crane Body with improved storage, exterior lighting
for night work, a stand-alone generator, heavier duty hoist and onboard compressor.
This upgrade will increase the City's ability to address utility emergencies.
The purchase would be made through the Sourcewell (formerly NJPA) cooperative
purchasing contract. The cooperative purchasing contract is a program that allows state
and local governments to purchase goods and services from approved industry
vendors. Agencies that use these contracts are bound by the terms, conditions and
pricing provided by the agreementss • .
OPP" • - 12.4, •
i •
•
•
•
•
