BACKGROUND
The proper operation of the City's pressure reducing stations are critical in maintaining
adequate working pressures in the City's water system. Pressure reducing stations are
used in areas of lower elevation to that of the water supply source and function to
reduce water pressure to adequate values. Pressure reducing stations also help control
flow under abnormal operating conditions such as fire flow scenarios. The pressure
reducing stations at Golden Eagle Estates have control valves that are significantly
beyond their useful life and have deteriorated to the point where replacement is the only
viable option. Replacement of the control valves will extend the life of the pressure
reducing stations and allow continued proper operation.
The City previously entered into a purchase order agreement with R&B Company for FY
2018/2019 with a not to exceed limit of $85,000 for the purchase of goods to facilitate
maintenance of the water system. Recently, two pressure reducing stations at Golden
Eagle Estates experienced control valve failures that require replacement. Staff
received bids for these replacement items and the lowest bidder was R&B Company at
a cost of $85,763.11. An amendment to the original purchase order agreement with
R&B Company from $85,000 to $170,000 is required for purchase of these pressure
reducing station repair goods, as well as purchase of other miscellaneous goods
required for maintenance of the water system throughout the remaining portion of the
fiscal year.
Submitted by: Fi cal Review: Approved,by:
I4P-1
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachments:
1.
