subsection (b) of this section are designated by <br /> appropriate signs as routes for commercial vehicles <br /> having a gross weight, including load, in excess <br /> o f three ( 3 ) tons. <br /> <br />"Section 5-5.03. Exceptions. <br /> <br /> a. Pickups and Deliveries. No provision of this <br /> article shall be construed to prohibit the use <br /> of any street when such use is necessary for the <br /> purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, <br /> wares, and merchandise from or to any building <br /> or structure or for the purpose of delivering <br /> materials to be used in the actual and bona fide <br /> repair, alteration, remodeling, or construction <br /> of any building or structure for which a building <br /> permit has previously been obtained. <br /> <br /> b. Certain Types. of Vehicles. The prohibition con- <br /> tained in Section 5-5.02 shall not apply to the <br /> following types of vehicles: <br /> <br /> (1)Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of <br /> the Public Utilities Commission. <br /> (2) Any vehicle owned by a public utility while <br /> necessarily in use in the construction, in- <br /> stallation, or repair of any public utility. <br /> (3) School buses while carrying students to and <br /> from school. <br /> (4)Pickup trucks. <br /> (5) Motor vehicles designed by the manufacturer <br /> for the transportation and collection of <br /> garbage, rubbish, or refuse and which are <br /> used regularly for such collection and trans- <br /> portation by any person or any governmental <br /> entity engaged in the business of or in pro- <br /> viding the service of collecting, transporting, <br /> and disposing of garbage, rubbish, or refuse. <br /> <br />"Section 5-5.04. Permit Procedure. <br /> <br /> The City Traffic Engineer may issue a permit, either <br /> verbally or in writing, for the following: <br /> <br /> a. Load or loads in excess of sizes and/or weights <br /> allowed for in the Vehicle Code if, in his judg- <br /> ment, the streets upon which such vehicle or <br /> vehicles is to be operated can safety withstand <br /> the loads, or if the applicant will guarantee to <br /> the City that all costs of repair to the streets <br /> or to public property of the City damaged by the <br /> movement of such load or loads will be paid in <br /> full. <br /> <br /> b. Load or loads not in excess of the size and/or <br /> weights allowed for in the Vehicle Code desiring <br /> to use City streets other than the truck route <br /> established in Section 5-5.02(b) for a specified <br /> period o f time. <br /> <br /> The permit fee is set forth in the Resolution <br /> Establishing Fees and Charges for Various Muni- <br /> cipal Services. In addition, the City Traffic <br /> Engineer may impose conditions on the permit <br /> <br /> -2- <br /> <br /> <br />
