BACKGROUND
The City of Pleasanton maintains approximately 85 acres of street median landscaping
accounting for nearly 40% of the total medians maintained in the city. To effectively
control costs, median mulch replenishment has been contracted out, allowing Parks
staff to focus on more specialized services, such as irrigation, plantings and field
maintenance. Funding has been allocated in the Parks Maintenance Division operating
budget for miscellaneous contract landscape maintenance.
Staff conducted an extensive out-reach effort to ensure that vendors were given
sufficient notice and opportunity to submit bids. Submittals for this project were opened
on August 15, 2018, with a total of five (5) proposals received. A voluntary bid
conference was held on August 29, 2018 to discuss scope of work and answer any
questions. Of the five (5) firms, (Rubicon Landscape, New Image Landscape, Northern
Management, Suarez and Munoz, and Terra Landscape), New Image Landscape
provided the lowest qualified bid.
The contract is divided into three years with each year addressing a pre-determined
section of the city, so all medians will be replenished every three years. The project will
be initiated each fall and the contractor will have a designated timeframe to complete
the work. Project administration is under the direction of the Parks Maintenance
Division.
Submitted by: Fisc Review: Approve by:
*\ -\
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olsen Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachment:
1.
