THE CITY OF 1 2 <br /> `"° CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLEASANTON« <br /> October 2, 2018 <br /> Community Development <br /> Planning Division <br /> TITLE: AUTHORIZE THE RETENTION OF THE EXISTING DOWNTOWN BICYCLE <br /> CORRAL AND INSTALLATION OF A NEW (SECOND) BICYCLE CORRAL <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Through the Downtown Specific Plan Update process and with adoption of the <br /> Downtown Parking Strategy and Implementation Plan, there has been community and <br /> City Council interest in expanding opportunities for public outdoor seating and dining, as <br /> well as making downtown more "bicycle-friendly" by adding bicycle parking throughout <br /> the downtown. In June 2017, the City Council approved the installation of a temporary <br /> on-street parklet and a bicycle corral at the intersection of West Angela and Main <br /> streets as a pilot project to help assess the viability of these types of public amenities. <br /> The pilot project has concluded, and at this time staff requests the Council consider the <br /> desirability of formalizing the existing bicycle corral and installing an additional bicycle <br /> corral. Separately, staff will return to Council at a future date to discuss future options <br /> for the parklet program. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action: <br /> 1. Authorize the retention of the existing bicycle corral; <br /> 2. Authorize the allocation of $4,050 to fund the cost of the second bicycle corral. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The anticipated cost to install an additional bicycle corral would be approximately <br /> $4,050 Should Council direct staff to move forward with and additional corral, staff <br /> recommends the use of the City's allocation of Measure B transportation sales tax <br /> funds, which can be used to support bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Funds <br /> would be drawn from CIP No. 18543 (Bicycle & Pedestrian Related Improvements). <br />
