BACKGROUND The Police Department's patrol fleet consists of twenty-seven (27) Ford Police Utility Interceptors. The pursuit-rated Utility Interceptors provides safety benefits, comfort and functionality that is sometimes limited with other patrol vehicle types. Based on feedback received from police personnel, the Utility Interceptors are considered the industry standard and the best choice for a patrol vehicle for Pleasanton. Due to the operational use of the patrol vehicles and warranty periods, a 4-year life cycle has been established for replacement. The patrol vehicles operate in Code 3 conditions with frequent stop and go, long periods of idling, and high-speeds that creates significant wear and tear on the vehicle increasing the cost of maintenance after the five-year or 100,000-mile warranty period. DISCUSSION The patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced this fiscal year are either approaching their five-year and/or 100,000-mile warranty expiration, deemed totaled due to damages or have exceeded maintenance costs thresholds. The total maintenance cost (excluding fuel) for the patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced is $237,833.
