BACKGROUND
The Police Department's patrol fleet consists of twenty-seven (27) Ford Police Utility
Interceptors. The pursuit-rated Utility Interceptors provides safety benefits, comfort and
functionality that is sometimes limited with other patrol vehicle types. Based on
feedback received from police personnel, the Utility Interceptors are considered the
industry standard and the best choice for a patrol vehicle for Pleasanton.
Due to the operational use of the patrol vehicles and warranty periods, a 4-year life
cycle has been established for replacement. The patrol vehicles operate in Code 3
conditions with frequent stop and go, long periods of idling, and high-speeds that
creates significant wear and tear on the vehicle increasing the cost of maintenance after
the five-year or 100,000-mile warranty period.
DISCUSSION
The patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced this fiscal year are either approaching their
five-year and/or 100,000-mile warranty expiration, deemed totaled due to damages or
have exceeded maintenance costs thresholds. The total maintenance cost (excluding
fuel) for the patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced is $237,833. Below is a table of the
patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced with the model year, mileage, maintenance
costs and miscellaneous notes.
Vehicle # Model Year Mileage Maintenance Cost Notes
(as of 7/2018)
401B 2014 $13,433 Totaled
402B 2015 72,220 20,760
405B 2014 75,935 23,244
409B 2014 66,935 14,200
410A 2009 20,409 Totaled
473B 2015 73,930 15,796
475B 2014 72,765 15,956
476B 2014 70,245 18,446
478B 2013 79,120 14,673
479B 2015 70,025 18,904
480B 2013 72,920 25,966
483B 2014 75,980 20,087
488B 2014 76,400 15,957
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
.‘\ / II
U iH
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations Director of Finance City Manager
and Water Utilities
