ATTACHMENT 4 <br /> UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY <br /> BERKELEY •DAVIS • IRVINE •LOS ANGE 5 •MERCED •RIVERSIDE •SAN D1EGD •SAN IRAN '... .i,'�• -s L SANTA BARBARA •SANTA.11,,I <br /> DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE.POLICY&MANAGEMENT <br /> 137 MULFORD HALL <br /> 43114 <br /> BERKELEY.CA 94720 3114 <br /> Jan 17th, 2018 <br /> Dear Alameda County Community Development Agency, <br /> It is with great enthusiasm that we are writing today to request funding of$23,650 to conduct a <br /> research project"Prioritizing land conservation in Eastern Alameda County."We believe that research <br /> which highlights the areas of greatest benefit for conservation will improve public policy and internal <br /> decisions making at the Altamont Landfill Open Space Advisory Committee. <br /> Our research(full proposal attached)will focus on 1) Building a robust dataset of ecological indictors <br /> for all Eastern Alameda County 2)Conducting viewshed assessment for all Eastern Alameda County 3) <br /> Integrating high priority areas as requested by local non-profits 4) Developing other factors of <br /> prioritization with consultation with the Altamont Landfill Open Space Advisory Committee and 5) <br /> Ultimately scoring and ranking parcels for their potential for conservations. Deliverables from UCB will <br /> include a report"Prioritizing land conservation in Eastern Alameda County."This report will go through <br /> internal peer review to assure the highest research standards. In addition to the report, UCB will deliver <br /> a database of ranked parcels,scores for each parcel, maps of scored parcels,as well as all datasets <br /> developed during the research project. <br /> UCB will retains its scientific independence during the research project.
