Don Sherratt spoke in support of PCRT and noted he is the father of Joy Sherratt who is the
Artistic Director of PCRT. The City requested a young and vital company to provide three
performances at the Firehouse Theatre which PRCT has provided. PCRT now has the required
"home-base" and has placed Pleasanton on the map for performances. He commented about his
involvement in the community and how Ms. Sherratt is a resident and also participates in the
community. He stated the Commission's vote was misrepresented by staff, and was actually 4 —
2. He requested the City Council table the decision and requested a compromise by giving both
organizations a "win-win" if the staff can restart the RFQ process.
Deborah Lagin spoke in support of TVRT and her experience as a young performer. She moved
from camper, to intern, to Co-Director throughout her history with the organization. She learned
about theatre production even though only in high school. The skills she learned at TVRT allowed
her to pursue a professional career in theatre. She supports the selection of TVRT for the one-
year opportunity at the Firehouse Theatre.
Joan Brown noted she is the Vice-President of TVRT and thanked the Commission for their
recommendation. They are excited to come back to Pleasanton and noted the company has been
located in the City for its entire existence. They are solvent without any government or City-
assistance, they have a great reputation and are producing quality shows. They are already part
of the Pleasanton arts community. They create a supportive learning environment and she
commented on the economics of their proposal. She provided letters of support from over 70
supporters of their company. She requested approval of staff's recommendation.
Councilmember Brown inquired regarding TVRT's location post-2020. Ms. Brown affirmed the
company is planning to stay in Pleasanton with no plans of changing location. She also confirmed
TVRT has a commitment with the Bankhead Theatre for two shows in the upcoming season and
they could work with staff to potentially place a third performance at the Firehouse.
Kendall Tieck spoke regarding his four decades working in the theatre and has directed two
productions for TVRT. Their support for him and the local arts is unparalleled. He urges the City
Council to accept this agreement. He noted equity and non-equity actors in the local area are
exceptional.
Debbie Gluckman, TVRT Board President, and noted her son's involvement in the organization.
He is now attending advanced theatre training due to his experience with TVRT. They are a
Pleasanton-based company, having performed in many of the local venues, are solvent and have
an excellent reputation for quality shows. She enumerated their outreach and special programs.
They are aligned with the Commission and City of Pleasanton's mission and goals. Community
members have received theatrical and vocal training from TVRT.
Marisa Cozad stated her work as a theatre performer in the Bay area and has worked with TVRT
on several occasions. As an actor, she notes many actors have limited control over where they
are contracted and she is excited to be able to work and live in the same area. She has chosen to
work with TVRT as they are conscientious and meticulous about their shows. The actors are
treated professionally and with mutual collaboration. There are props available during the
rehearsal process and from an audience perspective, the quality of their performances is
exceptional.
Bob Weiss stated he was a CEO/President of a local business and is a resident. He has been a
member and supporter of TVRT for over 30 years, and has a long history of bringing friends and
relatives to performances. The actors are terrific and choreography and sets are exceptional. He
correlates TVRT's performances with the quality he has seen on Broadway and overseas. He
supports the contract with TVRT.
City Council Minutes Page 7 of 12 March 20,2018
