THE CITY OF CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pLEASANTON. 1 0 February 6, 2018 Community Development Traffic Engineering Division TITLE: CONSIDER THE REVISED LAUREL CREEK DRIVE TRAFFIC CALMING PLAN SUMMARY City staff has been working with the residents from the Preserve neighborhood to develop solutions to address their traffic concerns along Laurel Creek Drive. A traffic calming plan was developed and approved by City Council in November of 2016. After implementation, analysis showed that vehicles continued to cut through and speed through the neighborhood. Staff has met with the Laurel Creek steering committee and revised the Laurel Creek Traffic Calming Plan to include a new permanent half street closure at the intersection of Laurel Creek Drive and Dublin Canyon Road. This will permanently block any vehicles from making right turns or left turns from Dublin Canyon Road to southbound Laurel Creek Drive. The residents have collected the required signatures to show that a strong majority of the residents support the revised traffic calming plan. RECOMMENDATION Approve the revised Laurel Creek Drive Traffic Calming Plan. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The estimated cost to permanently close southbound Laurel Creek Drive at Dublin Canyon Road is $20,000. Funds are included in the City's Bi -annual Traffic Calming Program, CIP No. 18555 in July of 2018. The use of the 2018 Traffic Calming project funds for this project will eliminate the ability to fund a new neighborhood project in 2018. The maintenance cost for the "No Right Turn" signs will be covered through the Street Division's Road Maintenance Program. Should the maintenance require more than routine restriping, the Traffic Calming CIP would be used to complete additional maintenance.
