Karen Gonzales
From: Pleasanton City Clerk gUPPLE ENTAL 111LATEPaA,'a,
Subject: Review of Owens Drive Traffic Circulation
Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
From: Rohit /1—
Sent:Tuesday,January 16, 2018 6 45 PM Date
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: Review of Owens Drive Traffic Circulation
City Council of Pleasanton,
I wanted to provide the council my feedback and thoughts regarding proposals for East bound Owens Drive
between Willow Rd and Iron Horse trail crossing (opposite BART)
I've lived and worked Pleasanton over 14 years and have been a frequent user of Owens drive as 1 work in the
vicinity of Owens Drive The initial lane reduction to Owens drive itself came as a shock to many of us at work
using the road The general perception is that the city "gave away" a public road to a private interest It also
appeared that interests of residents or users of Owens Dr were not the goal when taking this decision
The fact that the city has to review after 2 years is proof that the original design change was probably not the
right decision
While the traffic study referenced in the agenda report gives statistics on traffic count and signal times, in my
opinion, a few important points were missed
1 In the 2 years passed since lane reduction, many drivers (including me) tend to avoid Owens and prefer
alternate roads Certainly the count of cars today will be lower than what it may have been had the original lane
reductions not been made to Owens Drive
2 The sudden lane reduction after Willow has lead to bad driving behavior on the part of many drivers Most
drivers going straight on Owens intentionally take the inner or outer lanes when getting onto Owens from
Hopyard and race ahead to quickly (and dangerously) change to the middle lane going straight
I hope the council will take these points seriously and expand the east bound traffic lanes on Owens
Thanks and regards,
Rohit Gupta
Pleasanton CA 94566
Click here to report this email as spam
1
