Karen Gonzales
rom: Pleasanton City Clerk
ubject: Owens Drive SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
H6—iffFrom:Anne Fox Date
Sent:Saturday,January 13, 2018 9:48 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject:Owens Drive
Hello,
I have a few points to make about the Owens Drive narrowing.
As many of the former lanes as possible should be restored as possible. One lane in
one direction is completely unacceptable. It must have at least two lanes in either
direction.
I was a member of the task force and was appointed by Cindy McGovern. There were
quite a few meetings that we had that included Nelson, Cindy and myself as well as
Nelson, Cindy, Valerie Arkin, and myself regarding how this task force was going off on
'tangents driven by consultants with pre-determined opinions.
It was not a task force where the community was allowed to have input on the process
other than by signing off on staff-initiated decisions. In fact, it was apparent that staff
had worked out their preferred configuration of the property and circulation long before
the first Task Force meeting was ever held.
In fact, the facilitator hired by the city, Lucy, purposefully muzzled members of the task
force who tried to speak up on the issues, including me. For example, Lucy would not
let the stakeholder group made of persons such as Becky Dennis or Dolores Bengston
speak. Since this was the case, some members began being invited to a series of
meetings outside of the Task Force. Some of the task force and members of the
stakeholder group started having individual meetings at coffee shops and people's
houses instead. For example, one meeting I went to was held at Becky's house.
The points I would like to make are:
1. The members of the Hacienda Task Force and the stakeholder group never
Wpported the narrowing of Owens Drive in the first place. At the first meeting, staff is
e one that was insisting that Owens Drive be narrowed. This was largely pushed by
Craig Semmelmeyer, the city consultants, and Brian Dolan.
