Karen Gonzales
om: Pleasanton City Clerk
ubject: Owens Drive discussion Item#15 on the agenda Tuesday
SUPPLEMENTAL ME1 MATERIAL
From: Randy Provided
Sent:Saturday,
to the City Councilrday,January 13, 2018 9:23 PM
To: Mayor and City Council After Distribution of Packet
Subject:Owens Drive discussion Item#15 on the agenda Tuesday ( _ /to-/
Date
Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
I am unable to attend The upcoming meeting where item#15, the Owens Drive Lane narrowing discussion is scheduled to
take place.
I wish to go on record as favoring any solution that will restore the normal flow of traffic to Owens Drive at the point where
it was narrowed to allow additional parking for new apartments. Traffic has already been severely impacted by the
addition of new crosswalks and then the road was narrowed adding to further congestion. Without going into opinionated
comments about who may be using those spaces during the day, let me simply say that I oppose the current layout. At
one time I suggested two things which seem to have never made it past the person to whom they were addressed.
1. The apartment complex should have been made responsible to provide sufficient parking for their residents. This was
obviously not done. Approval for that project should have been withheld pending demonstration of sufficient off street
'Parking. Regardless of whether or not the money to narrow Owens Drive was provided by the builder, the approval
rocess was broken.
2. I suggest the addition of sky bridges to cross Owens Drive rather that the current grade level crosswalks requiring the
stoppage of vehicular traffic. These should be paid for by several entities. The apartment builders/owners, the large
businesses that depend on Bart to supply much of their workforce, by Bart, and by the County of Alameda which has a lot
of input regarding Bart operations. Every single entity I mentioned are stakeholders in safer and smoother traffic flow
through this high density business/residential area.
While I get that the politics behind this whole discussion were created because some administration thought it was a great
idea to get on the bandwagon hailing work/live in the same space to avoid commuting and help save the planet, etc., I find
the concept creating one hardship to"solve"another ridiculous.
Thank you for your time an allowing my input.
Randy Shafer
Pleasanton resident for 20 years.
Click here to report this email as spam.
•
1
