DISCUSSION
This 2018 CIP project begins the process of upgrading the 400+ traffic signal cameras
to provide the ability to differentiate between the presence of a vehicle and the presence
of a bicycle.
This video detection equipment will replace older malfunctioning equipment and will
provide bicycle discrimination allowing for timing to be adjusted in real-time to
accommodate the longer crossing time for bicycles. These 28 new cameras will be
placed at the Stanley at Valley/Bernal intersection as well as other high volume bicycle
network locations.
A Request for Proposals was posted on the City website in conformance with section
3.7 of the City's Purchasing Policy. One bid was received from Econolite. Econolite is
our current provider of signal detection equipment and these new cameras are
compatible with our existing software system that is used to operate and maintain the
other 400+ Econolite cameras installed in the City. Although the City only received one
bid for this project, the camera cost is similar to bids we have received in the past when
multiple bids were received for camera replacement projects.
The remaining cameras will be upgraded through our capital replacement plan over the
next ten years.
Submitted by: Fiscal eview: Technol•gy Review: Approved y:
NAt \
erry Beaudin Tina Olson All-,.4; mond' Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Director of City Manager
Community Finance Information
Development Technology
Attachments
1.
