BACKGROUND
As a continuation of course renovation work that started last year, on February 21,
2017, Council awarded a not-to-exceed $140,000 contract to D.H.R Construction Inc.
for the renovation of bunkers on holes #3, #8, and #9 to keep up with the Callippe
Preserve Golf Course multi-year bunker improvement plan.
DISCUSSION
During moderate rain events, sand erodes from the bunker faces exposing dirt and rock
which washes into the existing bunker sand, thus leading to poor drainage and
consequently limited playability. Due to this contamination, the bunkers no longer drain
effectively and are difficult to maintain.
In order to achieve a successful project, D.H.R Construction Inc. utilized the Better Billy
Bunker Method to renovate the six bunkers located on holes #3, #8 and #9. Once the
contaminated sand is removed from the bunker the interior drainage system is
inspected for improvement or replacement. After the drainage system has been cleaned
or replaced, a two inch layer of gravel is installed. The gravel is then sprayed with a
ST410 polymer that binds the gravel to prevent future sand contamination from erosion.
Once the polymer has cured, a four inch layer of bunker sand is installed.
All of the work has been completed to the satisfaction of the Director of Operations
Services and it is recommended that the project be accepted as complete.
Budget
The final contract cost is $133,202.20 from the original allocated funding of$140,000.
Staff recommends the project balance of$6,797.80 be transferred to the FY 2017/18
Golf Course Repair and Replacement Budget. The final project funding and
expenditures are summarized in Attachment 1 to this report.
Su•mitte•.
