THE CITY OF 5 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pLEASANTONo December 5, 2017 Economic Development TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION LEVYING THE DOWNTOWN PLEASANTON BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ASSESSMENT FOR 2018 SUMMARY The Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District Advisory Board's 2017 annual report and 2018 budget were presented to and approved by the City Council on November 7, 2017. The Council is now asked to hold a public hearing and consider adoption of a resolution levying the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District assessment for 2018. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the City Council hold a public hearing and adopt a resolution levying the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District assessment for 2018. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The current agreement between the Pleasanton Downtown Association, as manager of the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District, and the City requires the City to match the annual assessments paid by businesses in the business improvement district. In 2017, the City match from the General Fund was approximately $68,000. Staff anticipates the 2018 match (if approved) will be allocated at $68,000; this is included in the City's and the Pleasanton Downtown Association's budgets. In addition to the direct City contribution, the City adds approximately $66,000 in indirect funding which includes staff time to administer the PDA assessments and contract, provide assistance and support for events and business initiatives, as well as maintain downtown planters, cleaning sidewalks, and garbage pickup.
