BACKGROUND
The current five year lease agreement for the Central Services color and black and white
production copiers expires December 2017. Xerox has provided a proposal to replace
and existing copy equipment (D125 b/w and X700 color) with the newest D125 platform
and newest color platform — the Versant 180 Performance using the NASPO ValuePoint
Cooperative Purchasing Master Agreement 3091, which complies with the City's
completive bidding requirement.
The proposed equipment lease will be for a term of five years and in the amount of
$302,210.40. In addition to the equipment costs are print charges. Based the City's
current print volume, print charges are estimated at $3,000 per month.
The proposed Versant 180 Performance Press would include a more robust SquareFold
booklet maker with 2 knife trim capability (to provide beautifully finished, full-bleed trim
booklets). The Fiery DFE/Processer is also more robust with the capability to process
and print work more quickly reducing cycle times. This will provide a streamlined
workflow, and time savings during production. The USB kit will enable users to submit
jobs on thumb/flash drive (providing more flexibility with job submission). The upgrade
equipment will also provide:
• Increased Speed and productivity— 80 impressions per minute versus 70 (with a
more robust engine with higher duty cycle). The engine does not slow down on
heavy stocks (as the current X700 does).
• Greater automation and color matching/consistency (due to internal, closed-loop
process controls).
• Extra-long sheet printing/banner printing up to 26".
• Greater stock latitude (up to 130 lb. cardstock with support for coated substrates
and synthetic stock which removes the need to laminate.
• Squarefold booklet-maker with 2 knife trim gives documents a more professional,
finished look (Flat booklets are easier to handle, stack, pack, move and store). -
o Accepts booklets up to 25 folded sheets and is ideal for inline production
of a wide range of applications, such as brochures, catalogs, calendars,
directories/photo books, educational and training materials.
The new D125 will have a faster Fiery processer that includes imposition/composition
capability (electronic pre-press MakeReady). This will remove manual, time consuming
set-up processes and automate the workflow, which will allow work to be cycled through
the print shop more quickly. The newest D125 platform also provides reliability
enhancements.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved y:
"Ira /11/1/1(\
Kare Diaz Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
City Clerk Director of Finance City Manager
Attachment:
1.
