C. To protect one family dwellings from the lack of privacy associated with multi family dwellings;
E. To minimize traffic congestion and to avoid the overloading of utilities by preventing the construction
of buildings of excessive size in relation to the land around them;
... and
G. To provide necessary space for off-street parking of automobiles and, where appropriate, for off-street
loading of trucks;"
While we feel the Staff Report addresses Section G, we dispute that 8 bedrooms(with a potential 9th bedroom)
is consistent with"one-family", especially given the evidence that multiple families are residing at this
location, even if albeit temporary. Allowing this many bedrooms, especially given the history of the owners,
and by the owners own admission that they do not control who stays at the residence, this should be, at best,
considered a"Supportive Housing"or a"Transitional Housing"request. The appellants state they need the
remodel for their growing grandchildren, and at least one of their two sons, but they did not seek the expansion
until after the City of Pleasanton red-tagged the residence. Additionally, they continue to rent rooms/space to
non-family members. Approval of this project seems to be a violation of Title 18 Zoning and allows a multi-
family residence to be in an area that is not equipped for muti-family housing, which impedes on all
surrounding neighbors unfairly.
Approximately 4 years ago, an arrest of Antonio Jose Ortega was made at the appellants' residence. Antonio is
the appellant's youngest son(and father of some of the grandchildren the appellants are raising),who
undoubtedly will return to the residence.
The Pleasanton Weekly published:
*Antonio Jose Ortega, 23, of Pleasanton was arrested on a felony warrant from Pleasanton for lewd conduct
with a child. Ortega also was arrested on two other warrants, for possession of a non-narcotic controlled
substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody at about 7:10
a.m. at his home in the 3500 block of Yellowstone Court.
htt•s://•leasantonweekl '.com/news/2013/07/19/two-char Zed-with-robber -at-•leasanton-a.artment-com•lex
This further escalates our concerns about maintaining privacy, especially for our young daughter.
The Robles currently have an unrelated renter and his girlfriend residing at the home, who we believe to be on
some sort of probation, as we have seen him handcuffed and searched by police (his person and his vehicle) on
multiple occasions. The appellants were not forthcoming about this resident at the initial hearing; however, if
they have space to have renters and temporary residents, it does not stand to reason that they are so tight on
space they need to pursue this expansion. We urge you to speak to Detective Nick Albert, with the Special
Enforcement Unit of the Pleasanton Police Department who is familiar with this residence and the frequent
transient residents.
Thank you for taking the time to read this report. Although lengthy, it is important information that we leave in
your hands. We urge you to uphold at minimum the decision at the original hearing.
Sincerely,
gEeot clad s
Glen and Shoni Johnson
® Yellowstone Court
Pleasanton, CA 94588
13 of 13
