THE CITY OF
- 1 2
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTON.
August 15, 2017
Operations Services Department
TITLE: CONSIDER INTRODUCTION OF AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND
MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 14.04.140 TO ALLOW THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPROVE AN ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY TO ADJUST
BILLS AFTER CERTAIN WATER LEAKS ARE REPAIRED
SUMMARY
The proposed ordinance amends the municipal code to authorize the City Manager to
adopt an administrative policy that allows for a credit to a customer's utility bill after certain
water leaks have been repaired. The proposed amendment limits such a policy to
situations where the leak was: (a) not readily discernable by the customer; and (b) beyond
the customer's control.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt an ordinance to amend Municipal Code Section 14.04.140 [Meter tests and
adjustment of bills]to allow the City Manager to approve an administrative policy to adjust
bills after certain water leaks are repaired.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Based on the requests for utility bill adjustments that Customer Service and Utility Billing
staff have received over the past year, if such an administrative policy is adopted, staff
estimates the financial impact to be around $7,000 - $10,000 per year.
