Results of <br />this investigation disclosed that the residents of the tracts in Vacaville where <br />gas lighting is used objected to the cost of gas and maintenance of this type <br />street lighting, however, there were no apparent problems from the Vacaville <br />Police and Fire Departments. <br />Mr. Weaver, representative of D and V Builders stated that he again reviewed <br />the cost of gas lights with P.G.&E, and was advised that the cost to operate gas <br />OrD lights was nominal. He also indicated that a high quality of underground materials <br />00 were going to be used. <br />It was moved by Councilman McWilliams and seconded by Councilman Gerton that <br />the use of a gas lighting system in Tract No. 2796, Pleasanton Valley, be approved. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Vice -Mayor Bubics <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Mayor Long <br />Preliminary Current and Future Budget Considerations Re: Planning <br />Mr. Fales reported on the proposed qualifications and salary of a full time <br />planner for the City of Pleasanton. He compared this salary and that of a secre- <br />tary with the amount of man hours and costs currently being spent on Planning in <br />the Public Works Department. Mr. Fales indicated that approximately $21,434.00 <br />would be needed in the 1966 -67 Budget to provide for the establishment of a Plan- <br />ning Department. <br />1 <br />1 <br />Proposed Ordinance Declaring_ a Portion of Sunol Blvd. to be a County Road <br />Mr. Fales reviewed a copy of the Board of Supervisors resolution which declares <br />a portion of Sunol Blvd. within the City of Pleasanton as a County Road. Mr. Falea <br />road a letter from Mr. Vivrette which explained that a City Ordinance declaring a <br />portion of Sunol Blvd. to be a part of the County System of Highways was necessary <br />in order for the County to expend funds for the reconstruction of the Southern <br />Pacific Railroad underpass. Mr. Fales indicated that this portion of Sunol Blvd. <br />will be returned to the City of Pleasanton as soon as this project is completed. <br />Councilman Gerton introduced Ordinance No. 448, declaring a portion of Sunol <br />Boulevard with the City of Pleasanton as a County Road. <br />It was moved by Councilman Harding and seconded by Councilman McWilliams that <br />the reading of Ordinance No. 448 be waived. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Vice Mayor Bubics <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Mayor Long <br />Matters for the Information of the Council <br />Mr. Fales reported that the United States Postmaster General has directed that <br />curb -side mail boxes be installed in front of homes in all new subdivisions in <br />order to expedite motorized delivery of mail. Mr. Fales stated that the installa- <br />tion of mail boxes at the sidewalk would greatly detract from the aesthetic value <br />of the subdivisions and mitigate against any efforts the City is making toward <br />improving the beauty of these new tracts. <br />Mr. Fales recommended that an emergency ordinance be adopted amending Ordi- <br />nance No. 341, Encroachment Ordinance, requiring that an encroachment permit be <br />obtained from the City for all mail boxes installed in the public right -of -way. <br />Mr. Fales further recommended that the City Council indicate that no encroachment <br />permits for these installations are to be granted. <br />It was moved by Councilman McWilliams and seconded by Councilman Harding that <br />Resolution No. 66 -45, forbiding the issuance of Encroachment Permits for all mail <br />boxes installed in the public right -of -way, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Vice -Mayor Bubics <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Mayor Long <br />2. <br />37' <br />
