MINTIT1 S of THE MEETING of THE CITY COUNCIL Pleasanton, California March 15, 1965 THE CITY COUNCIL met in Adjourned Regular Session at 8 :00 P.M. on the above date with Mayor Long presiding. ROLL CALL by the City Clerk evidenced the following attendance: Councilmen Bubics, Cairo, Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long were present. Mr. Fales, City Manger, Mr. Struthers, City Attorney, Mr. Campbell, City Engineer and Mrs. Woodward, City Clerk were present. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG was led by Mayor Long. Councilman Cairo stated that pledging of Allegiance to the flag was not a habit of the City Council but was serious- ly recited. MEETING OPEN FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE TO ADDRESS THE COUNCIL Mr. Paul Loretz congratulated the City Council on the pledging of allegiance to the flag which they have been doing for many years. PUBLIC HEARINGS were not scheduled for this meeting. REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS were not presented at this meeting. REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER Bernal Avenue Re- Alignment Mr. Fales stated that this matter was continued from the City Council meeting of March 8th. Mr. Campbell presented the revised map and explained the re- alignment. Access to properties on present Bernal Avenue was discussed. It was moved by Councilman Cairo and seconded by Councilman McWilliams that the "plan Tine" for relocated Bernal Avenue be approved by the City Council as indicated on the revised plan; that the staff be authorized to proceed to refine the "plan line" with detailed street location design; and that the staff be authorized to commence negotiations for right -of -way acquisition; and continue the extension of Main Street to connect with Sunol Blvd. at some location near Bernal Avenue as relocated. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: COUNCILMEN Bubics, Cairo, Harding, McWilliamd and Mayor Long NOES: None ABSENT: None Mr. Ted Fairfield, MacKay Somps, stated that as consulting engineer, he was opposed to Main Street crossing Bernal Avenue. He stated that the possible traffic problem and the increased costs justified his opposition to the City Council's desire in this matter. Mr. Fales stated that he would present a cost estimate regarding the Main Street intersection with Bernal Avenue at a. later date. Set Public Hearin: Annexation No. 36 Pleasanton -Sunol Annex "E" Mr. Fales stated that this proposed annexation was approved by the LAFC on March 11th and recommended that the Public Protest Hearing on this annexation be set for May 3rd 1965. It was moved by Councilman Cairo and seconded by Councilman McWilliams that Resolution No 65 -43, setting the public hearing date for Annexation No. 36, Pleasanton -Sunol Annex "E" on May 3rd, 1965 at 8:00 P.M., be adopted. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Bubics, Cairo, Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long NOES: None ABSENT: None Set Public Hearing; Annexation No. 38, Stanley Blvd. Annex "B" Mr. Fales stated that this proposed annexation was also approved by the LAFC on March llth and recommended a public protest hearing date be set for May 3rd, 1965. It was moved by Councilman Harding and seconded by Councilman Bubics that Resolution No. 65 -44, setting the public hearing date for annexation No. 38, Stanley Blvd. annex "B" for May 3rd, 1965 at 8:00 P.M., be adopted.
