In response, staff recommends installing one temporary on-
street parklet (a public outdoor seating area in space currently used for vehicle parking)
and one bicycle corral at the intersection of West Angela and Main streets to ascertain
the viability of these public amenities. The pilot project will last through approximately
Summer 2018 at which time the Council can evaluate the desirability of parklets and
bike corrals as amenities for the Downtown.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action:
1. Adopt a resolution authorizing the installation of one parklet and one bicycle corral
for public use on West Angela Street.
2. Authorize the transfer of $26,750 from the Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
Reserve, CIP No. 06418 to the Pilot Parklet project, CIP No. 17464 to fund the
project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The anticipated cost is approximately $31,850, including both the parklet and bicycle
parking. Staff recommends funds from the CIP Reserve fund, CIP No. 06418, be
transferred into a new CIP project, Pilot Parklet, CIP No. 17464, to fund and track
expenditures. Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian dollars ($5,100) from the Bicycle and
Pedestrian Related Improvements project, CIP No. 16543, will provide the funding for
the bicycle corral.
