There were a
total of seven bids received, ranging from the low bid amount of $484,575.30 from
American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Company, Inc. to $672,996.75. The low bid is
approximately 33% lower than the engineer's estimate of $720,000 (see attached Bid
Summary). All of the contractors submitted bids lower than the engineer's estimate.
Similar to previous years, City staff suspects that the low bid amounts received from the
contractors were due to their desire to secure projects in preparation for the summer
months. It is the staffs goal to advertise all future slurry seal projects as early as
possible to achieve budget savings.
Past work performed by American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Company, Inc. with
other agencies was verified to be satisfactory. Therefore, staff recommends award of
the construction contract to American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Company, Inc. of
Hayward, California.
Budget
The project was authorized under the FY 2016/2017 CIP budget for design and
construction with an approved budget of$750,000 in gas tax funding.
