BACKGROUND
State Assembly Bill 3229 signed by the governor on July 12th, 1996 added section
30061 of the Government Code establishing a statewide fund for allocation to local
police agencies, referred to as the Citizens' Options for Public Safety Program. As
required by the bill, the County of Alameda has established a Supplemental Law
Enforcement Services Fund and has established a committee to oversee and review the
annual expenditures by local agencies from this fund. The funds are allocated to our
City based on population. For COPS Year 20, the City of Pleasanton has received an
allocation of$134,584.
Recommended Expenditures:
The Police Department recommends expenditures for COPS Year 20 be encumbered for
expenditures which support front line law enforcement functions and serve to enhance
public safety. This allocation will be utilized as follows:
• continue to maintain PredPol predictive policing software
e develop practical technology driven solutions for department equipment
management with the purchase of an electronic key control box, and keyed
lockers
• improve officer safety with the purchase of critical response kits
• and enhance communication and Public Records Act compliance with the
purchase of social media archiving services.
As in prior years, input was solicited from members of the Police Department and
submissions were reviewed by the department's Command Staff in the context of
achieving these goals and initiatives.
The sum total of COPS Year 20 funding is approximately $146,075 which includes
received funding, a roll-over sum from COPS Year 19, and earned interest.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
Davi .
