THE CITY OF 15
_ ° 212f rifir CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
April 18, 2017
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE EXPANSION OF THE RECYCLED WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
PROJECT TO CONSTRUCT A WATER PRESSURE BOOSTER STATION
AT KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK UTILIZING AVAILABLE CALIFORNIA
CLEAN WATER STATE REVOLVING FUNDS AND PROPOSITION 1B
GRANT FUNDS
SUMMARY
On August 16, 2016, City Council authorized the expansion of the recycled water
system on Gibraltar Drive from West Las Positas to Hacienda Drive, Tassjara Tank
vault improvements, and purchase of a pre-packaged booster station to be installed at
Ken Mercer Sports Park. The expansion of piping on Gibraltar Drive and the Tassjara
Tank vault improvements are complete. The design and selection of a pre-packaged
booster station is complete and ready to be purchased through a change order to
Ranger Pipelines, Inc. Before City Council today is the authorization to purchase the
pumping system and select the preferred location for the station. The installation of the
booster station, and construction of piping and electrical feed will be brought to the City
Council under a separate construction contract, the cost of which will be dependent on
the selected location for the station.
On March 9, 2017, the recycled water booster station was presented to the Parks and
Recreation Commission. The Commission approved locating the station as proposed in
Location 2 - Hard Ball Field C, as described later in the report. However, some Parkside
Drive residents raised concerns about location, noise, and vibration from the station. In
response, City staff reviewed the concerns and possible alternative locations, but still
recommends the placement of the booster station at Location 2. (The location as
presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission.)
RECOMMENDATION
1. Authorize the Director of Engineering to approve and execute a contract change
order to Ranger Pipelines Inc. for approximately $425,000 to purchase a pre-
packaged booster station from Patterson Pumps for the recycled water system.
2. Approve the location of the Sports Park Booster Station at Location 2 - Hard Ball
Field C.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is not a financial impact associated with this action because all required funding
has been budgeted for the recycled water infrastructure project.
