The City's 2014 Parks and Recreation Master Plan identified the need for additional
dog parks in Pleasanton. The location chosen for the dog park, close to the trailhead of
the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail, was the best location based on the open area and
community input. Once the location was chosen the City worked with neighbors to
screen the park with earthen berms and provide a drought tolerant landscape. The
park, Cubby's Dog Park at Bernal, is approximately 1-1/2 acres of fenced dog play
area. The fenced area included an area for small dogs and a separate larger area for
large dogs. Both the small and large dog areas have dog drinking fountains, shade
structures, seating, trees with protection fencing, trash receptacles, and dog waste
stations. The large dog area also includes dog play equipment: a seesaw, hoops, and a
jumping stand. The park included expansion of the existing parking lot from 13 spaces
to 25 spaces, but based on use it has been determined that the parking lot needs to be
expanded even further to 37 marked spaces. Funding from the HRPP grant would be
used to make that expansion.
Staff recommends approval of a funding application as described in this report.
Award announcements will be made by HCD no later than June 30,2017.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
/1/- A-1Y
Brian Dolan Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Assistant City Manager Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
