Annette Brecheisen
From: Pleasanton City Clerk
Subject: Owens Drive
CAL MATERIAL
vid to the City Council
From:Jay Botelho i 0:Jr Distribution of Packet
Sent:Tuesday, March 14, 2017 9:06 PM
To: Mayor and City Council<citycouncil @cityofpleasantonca.gov> Date 3-15- 17
Cc:Jay Botelho
Subject:Owens Drive
As a long-time resident of Pleasanton I have to admit I was more than surprised the first time I came upon the choke point that is now
Owens Drive. It truly does defy logic. I've read the reasons given for making the change, but they seem hollow at best. One would
think that the addition of so many housing units would require that the road at least remain as wide as it was before the addition of the
housing, not reduced from three lanes to one.The best logic that I can extract from everything I've read is that Pleasanton went out of
its way to please the developer at the tremendous inconvenience of all of its citizens.
I respectfully request that you reconsider the decision regarding the narrowing of Owens Drive. If this decision had really been made
widely known to all citizens of Pleasanton in advance,I assure you the response would have been loud and strong to leave the road
alone and find alternate solutions to whatever the "problem" is. I'm sure there were public reviews, but it wouldn't even have occurred
to me that such a drastic change would be made to traffic flow that I needed to become involved in any public review. Perhaps there's
a bit of"shame on me" in that, but there's also more than a bit of"shame on Pleasanton"for making a decision that obviously serves
development, and not the citizenry of our fine city.
Regards,
Jay Botelho
1
